Red wasn’t just any cow—she was the cow. The leader of the herd, the one who set the tone, and the one everyone respected. Smart, strong, and full of personality, she carried herself with confidence. If there was a decision to be made—where to graze, when to move—Red was the one calling the shots.

I wanted this painting to capture that spirit. The bold reds, deep purples, and fiery oranges aren’t just about her coat—they’re about her presence. She wasn’t a background character; she stood out. Her eyes had this sharpness, this knowing look, like she was always a step ahead of everyone else.

I used a mix of water-based pigmented wax and ink on foam board to bring out the texture and energy in her expression. The strokes are layered and rich, just like her personality—soft in some areas, bold in others. She was more than just a cow; she was loved, respected, and, in her own way, kind of legendary.

This piece is a tribute to her—a reminder that strength and beauty can go hand in hand, and that even in a pasture, leadership is something you feel.
